Family Dentist – Early Decay Prevention Dentistry – How Can You Help My Child?
Early Decay Prevention
Early Decay Prevention. Tell me how I can best help my child. What should I be thinking about? What should I be looking for to help my child?
Burlington Dentist Dr. Long Vo: That’s not as complicated as you think.
Charlie: Okay.
Burlington Dentist Dr. Long Vo: Simply lift the lips and take a look. Put your finger there and look for anything soft. So we’re looking for infections here. So usually what an infection does is it swells up a little bit. Then if you put your finger there, you can feel that it’s soft and kind of bulgy. Your child may be complaining of pain or is not eating properly. So just stay alert.
You don’t have to be an expert. Stay alert and come in on the regular checkups. We are specialized in this field. We see thousands of children and we know what to look for. For mom or dad to simply put their finger in there and take a look with their eyes, if you see anything, a discolored tooth, give us a call. If it’s nothing, then we’ll simply let you know. At least you were alert enough to bring it to our attention.
Sometimes mommy and daddy can actually detect a cavity. Then you bring your child in early and that’s when we can avoid the needle. We can fix the problem. It saves a lot of money and a lot of time and a lot of anxiety for your child because now we don’t need to traumatize your child with a three hour appointment versus a 15 minute appointment.
Charlie: You know I don’t think my parents ever looked into my mouth that same way. I know I never did it for my children. So I appreciate you bringing that one up that way.
Burlington Dentist Dr. Long Vo: Yes.
